“Feature Wall” Takes Shape at Elks Children’s Eye Clinic

As part of a multiple mock-up process, Mayer/Reed worked hands-on with our CM/GC team to tailor construction details of a textured concrete feature wall for the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic.ElkChildrensEyeClinicwallconstruction The wall will feature forty-five rainbow-colored pieces of cast glass in an array of the light spectrum that’s visible to the human eye. When it opens this summer at OHSU, visitors will be able to explore this artistic element in a multi-sensory garden.

Another Brilliant Portland Winter Light Festival

For the 5th year in a row, dazzling, illuminated installations and performances delighted festival-goers during the Portland Winter Light Festival held February 6-8th.MayerReed_KineticDelighthand As darkness approached on opening night, a crew from Mayer/Reed walked from our downtown studio to partake in the festivities flanking the riverfront. Such amazing displays! Our first stop, of course, was the installation we designed – Kinetic DeLight. We had so much fun watching the night light up as people found their own, unique ways of interacting with the hundreds of human-powered LED skateboard wheels. Mayer/Reed is proud to have supported this community-building event since the beginning – as sponsors, designers and volunteers – and we look forward to next year’s bright ideas.

Renovated Oregon Convention Center Reveals New Public Open Space, Enhanced Wayfinding

Designers, contractors and community leaders recently celebrated the completed renovation of the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon. The major upgrade elevates the visitor experience – indoors and out – at the largest event venue in the Pacific Northwest.

The new outdoor environment designed by Mayer/Reed adds a hospitality terrace and events plaza and improves pedestrian circulation throughout the site.
An identity pylon of weathering steel and luminous glass marks the main entry.
Inside the building, our signage design complements LMN Architects’ renovated interiors with internally illuminated wayfinding pylons that glow as landmarks within the large volume spaces.
