Outdoor Adventure at the Portland Children’s Museum received a Merit Award in the general design category for the education-based environment designed to inspire learning through outdoor play and connection to nature.The Design Week Portland event Revolution in the Landscape: Re-Experience Halprin’s Fountains, produced by the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) Portland Chapter, received a Merit Award in the research and communication category.  Kathy Fry and Mike Sauer at our studio conceived and managed the event. Both are SEGD members and co-chair the Portland Chapter. Seven teams were involved, each designing and installing a separate temporary art installation along Halprin’s Open Space Sequence. Mayer/Reed’s installation at Ira Keller Fountain titled “We Are All in This Together,” encouraged attendees to re-engage with Halprin’s 45 year old historic urban spaces. The event lasted for 2 hours, starting at dusk with 500 glow rings handed out to participants.

Mayer/Reed was honored with a Merit Award in the 2014 SEGD Global Design Awards Program for our wayfinding design on the Vancouver Community Library. The design team of Mayer/Reed (wayfinding), The Miller Hull Partnership (architecture), and AldrichPears (interpretive installation) was among 32 recognized for excellence in environmental graphic design among 412 entries.

The award was presented to Michael Reed, Partner and Kathy Fry, Associate Partner at the SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Design) Global Design Awards on June 7 in Atlanta, GA. The award program is the only international design awards focused on communication in the built environment.

The Miller Hull Partnership received an AIA Honor Award for Interior Architecture for the University of Washington’s Odegaard Undergraduate Library renovation. Mayer/Reed created the experiential graphics and wayfinding as part of the collaborative design effort that reimagined the space for 21st century learning.

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Oregon presented Mayer/Reed with a Merit Award in Transportation for our work on the Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Bridge at the annual Design Award Soiree held November 1st.

The jury appreciated Mayer/Reed’s collaboration with the bridge engineers and architects in achieving a project that is elegant in form and compelling for pedestrians. We are honored to be acknowledged for our contributions to the bridge’s interface with two distinct neighborhoods, as well as our input on the design of the bridge itself. Now, it’s great to see the bridge in active use, with people using it every day, even making the choice to take the stairs!

The ASLA awards program recognizes the best in the landscape architecture of public places, residential designs, campuses, parks and urban planning projects in Oregon.
