Mayer/Reed master planned a new 7.3-acre park in SE Portland. We worked with Portland Parks & Recreation on a creative and inclusive approach to engage the culturally diverse community. Mayer/Reed developed graphics that communicate ideas without language for an essential part of the outreach. The award-winning public involvement process inspired a plan with community gardens, splash pad, gathering areas and sports fields. The process demonstrates that comprehensive outreach and participatory design activities (despite language barriers) can bring many different people together to shape a space that is destined to be a neighborhood social hub.
