San Francisco International Airport, International TerminalSan Francisco, California
Mayer/Reed was the lead designer for the development and implementation of the shopping and dining identity and wayfinding program at the new 2.5-million sf SFO International Terminal Building. Scott/AG of Santa Rosa was the project manager and fabricator for this design-build project.
Key elements of the program included 18-foot tall information pylons in the ticketing hall incorporating maps, promotional posters and directional information. The highly detailed sign structures and graphics were prototyped and field tested on-site. Total project duration spanned nine months from startup to final installation. The marketing theme consisted of a series of four pop-art posters promoting restaurants from the Bay Area. These themes supplemented the new terminal mapping system that we created to assist passengers before and after security check-in. The project in the International Terminal Building became the model for facility-wide commercial wayfinding upgrades.
