The new 11 story, $200 million Cancer Center is the most technologically advanced cancer center on the West Coast, providing research, treatment and care on the Providence Medical Center campus. Mayer/Reed designed the welcoming site entry and restorative gardens used by patients, staff and families. The verdant outdoor spaces convey the sense of caring, health and well-being that nature provides, in keeping with the guiding principles of the Providence organization.
Visitors are greeted by a rain-activated garden that treats stormwater from the site. On the main level, a courtyard outside the center’s café is available for small gatherings, hosted events, music and outdoor dining. At other levels of the building, courtyards offer more meditative settings for patients adjacent to medical treatment and waiting areas.
