Mayer/Reed led the master plan and schematic design for Gateway Discovery Park and an adjacent mixed-use development on city-owned property.
The “Gateway Redevelopment, Urban Plaza, and Neighborhood Park” project strategically locates the park on 3.2 acres and the development on 1 acre to maximize beneficial relationships between the uses. It addresses this property as part of an eco-district with an emerging identity and catalyst for sustainable private re-development of the commercial areas. Through a process of public open houses and citizen reviews, our team arrived at a plan that supports neighborhood goals and promotes a sense of community.
A flexible-use plaza creates a neighborhood destination for farmer’s market, festivals, performances and movies. In addition, the plan includes loop paths, an interactive water feature, flexible green spaces, a vegetated stormwater swale, a children’s play area and a skate spot for beginning skateboarders.
