Mayer/Reed and its team of consultants prepared a master plan for the 230-acre Graham Oaks Natural Area. The tracts, purchased through the Metro Greenspaces Program, is a diverse landscape composed of steep forested terrain, seasonal wetlands, a working filbert orchard, open farmland, meadows and a half-mile frontage on Mill Creek. Degraded parts of the site hold great potential for improved ecological function through landscape restoration.
The goal of the master plan was to protect, restore and reclaim the site to a sustainable natural environment that attracts wildlife and balances the demand for passive recreation. The plan illustrates how physical and educational connections are made between the nearby community of Villebois, two adjacent public schools and a nature center. Tasks included natural resource assessment and site analysis, landscape management, landscape restoration recommendations, trail planning and description of interpretive opportunities.
